How to Get Started

1

Gather Your Service Records

Locate your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty). This is the foundation of every VA claim. If lost, request a copy through the National Archives at archives.gov/veterans.

2

Identify Your Benefits

Common benefits include disability compensation, pension, education (GI Bill), home loan guaranty, healthcare enrollment, and life insurance. Your eligibility depends on service dates, character of discharge, and disability status.
